Summer's pretty much over in Wellington. Tom's cricket season finished up last weekend and rugby started on Saturday. Tom's playing for Petone Under 10's this season. It's his second season of tackle!

The rear shock on the Merlin is starting to show it's age. The good folks from Merlin Metalworks are helping me find some replacements bits for this beastie.

Are you a New Zealander?

Originally uploaded by kiwipete.
March 7, 2006 is census night in New Zealand.

The New Zealand Census of Population and Dwellings, held every five years, is the official count of the total number of people and dwellings in New Zealand. On census night, everyone in the country must fill in a census form.

Question 11 has been a hot topic for kiwis in this year's census. The question asks the individual to identify with an appropriate ethnic group. Curiously, there's no option for 'New Zelander'. Apparently there are no New Zealanders living in New Zealand. Rumor has it they've all buggered off to Australia.

An email has been circulating through offices around the country in the weeks prior to the census encouraging census takers to check the 'other' option and type 'New Zealander' in the text field rather than check one of the pre-configured options.
Will look forward to the results and see how many New Zealanders we really have down here

Dropped in at mum's place at lunchtime just in time to catch a head to head bake-off between Gran and Amy. Gran rattled off a great batch of scones, and Amy came back with a fine tray of coconut and banana muffins. Luckily I was there to judge and, after several scones, muffins and cups of teas....declared a draw
